How to do biographical storytelling when the main charcater got a totally multidimensional story to offer? Not an easy to answer question when it comes to the saga of producer, musician, and composer Max Loderbauer. Is it important to mention that he studied sound engineering and that he was Germany’s serviceman for the Fairlight Sampler? What about his time in the late eighties band Fischerman’s Friend and the moments when he was part of the ambient duo Sun Electric, with whom he wrote in the early nineties some electronic music history with releases on labels like R & S records? And then there was his work with the ten strong Redux Orchestra and with Chica Paula as Chica and The Folder. There is his existence as one third of the Moritz Von Oswald Trio, his collaborations with Ricardo Villalobos, and his latest work with Sasu Ripatti as Heisenberg. And at least: what about the experimentation that he produces together with his pal Tobias Freund as NSI. and that longs from ultra-minimal techno to test-tone fugues, and electro-acoustic improvisation? All of these plotlines offer a story of its own. The only way to feel all chapters under one roof is the music that Max Loderbauer produces by himself. Here it all melts together and moves on in its very own personal direction. With „Transparenz“ the Berlin based bon vivant now releases his first ever solo album on Tobias Freund’s label Non Standard Productions. A record that diggs deep into his own life story as an artist and as a human. Max likes the mountians and all those who know the room that your perception perceives when you stand on top of one will find an equal spirit in his free wheeling tracks. In them there are waves of ambient dimensions that go beyond the causal sense of ambient while opening the space with sequenzed atmospheres in which the room between the tones is large. The filigran arranged tracks sometimes sound like they are played in by a mini orchestra, but only electronic machines like the Buchla 200e, the Eurorack Modular, the Sequentix Cirklon Sequencer, and the haken continuum fingerboard awakened them to life! No computer and no multitrack recording was used. Only real synthspace that is full of spontanity but arranged with the knowledge of all possibilities that each tone got to offer call the tune. He produced it all in the last year at his and Tobias Freund’s studio in Berlin. It was always daylight when the music came to live even if some of it sounds like the deepest haunting night. There been also no previous layouts – all is done live by unexspected improvisation and the intuition that a single new day of life got to offer. A mode of operation in which each note floated to the next in order to build a pool of tracks that listen to such sweat names like „Giant Hug“ or „Gamshag“, a mountain in the Kitzbühel Alps of Austria that Max Loderbauer loves and that he now climbs in his own musical imagination. Sometimes the music is guided by airy rhythms. Then foggy poignant atmospheres hex the senses. When his tracks get percussiv then only in an avant-garde form, in which poetic melodies are balancing and drifting in a cloud of synthetic introverted sounds. There is some NSI., some von Oswald space, some Villalobos melancholia in all of them, but yet everything sounds totally new because any resonance is mirroring Max Loderbauer’s widely ramified life story with open beginnings and ends to which the listener can connect innocently in order to boot his own emotions right in the middle of the music.
